Today Tucson-area Allstate agents and employees teamed up with Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona to sort donated food and ultimately help fight community hunger.
The local Allstaters joined thousands of volunteers around the country participating in Allstate's second annual Week of Service, which runs from June 10-15 and challenges employees to partner with a local nonprofit on a project to benefit the community.
"Whether we are distributing boxes of food or bagging produce, we all want to support the food bank's efforts and make a difference," said Ryan Smith, Allstate volunteer and sales leader in Tucson. "Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona fights hunger every day in our community and we are happy to lend a helping hand."
The nonprofit organizations where employees and agency owners hold volunteer projects are eligible for a $500 grant to help support their project. In total, more than $150,000 will be awarded on behalf of Allstate employees and agency owners to nonprofit organizations for the Week of Service.
"This year's Week of Service will benefit thousands of individuals, including Tucson residents," said Smith. "This project reflects our culture of caring and the people who are helping make a difference in communities across America. Whether it's cleaning up a park or mentoring a teen, we can all do our part to give back."
In addition to the Week of Service, Allstate honors the community service of employees with grants to support the nonprofits they serve. In 2012, The Allstate
Foundation supported the volunteerism of employees and agency owners with more than $2 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations. Allstate employees and agency owners donate more than 200,000 hours of volunteer services to benefit local communities around the country.
