Last week, Oro Valley ceremoniously completed the Lambert Lane project with a ribbon-cutting event near the entrance to Cañada del Oro Riverfront Park.

The road project, which cost $10.7 million, entailed widening the road to four lanes from La Cañada Drive to Pusch View Lane, which is 1.6 miles.

Some of the project’s features included bike lanes, sidewalks, a separated 10-foot wide multi-use path, raised and landscaped medians, asphalt rubber pavement, bus pullouts, and public artwork.

“It wasn’t just about figuring out what would work for today, but what would work for a very, very long time in the future,” said Oro Valley Mayor Satish Hiremath during the event. “We wanted to make sure when we got together and figured out, ‘lets not just do something like how most construction projects are in five years you tear it up and start all over again.’ This was really, really thought out.”

The two-year project, which included moving utility lines from Southwest Gas, Tucson Electric Power, Comcast, and Qwest, added additional lane space that will now provide capacity for existing and future traffic volumes.
