“Dreamers” is a term adopted by immigrants’ rights advocates to refer to youths affected by the proposed federal DREAM Act. The proposed legislation would give children who grew up in the United States, but whose parents are living in the country illegally, a path to citizenship, either by serving in the U.S. armed forces or pursuing a higher education.
