What do you do with your old medications? More than half of all unused pharmaceuticals go in the trash. Others are flushed down the toilet where they contaminate the waterways.

The bulk of pharmaceuticals found in waterways most likely got there by way of sewage. Aside from any environmental implications, discarded pharmaceuticals pose a real threat of misuse.

On Feb. 18, the Pima County Sheriff's Department will host a Dispose-A-Med event.

The collection site will be located at the Target, located at 4040 N. Oracle Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Prescription, and over-the-counter tablets, capsules, liquids, and creams will be collected. Metal or glass inhalation aerosol bottles, syringes and epi-pens will not be accepted.

For safety and confidentially reasons, any items turned over for collection cannot be returned.

Drugs will not be accepted from commercial organizations.
