Fire following car accident put out by good samaritan
Adam Goldberg/Northwest Fire

Around 12:56 p.m. Northwest Fire Crews responded to the intersection of Ina and La Cholla Roads for a reported two car accident.

Initial reports indicated that one of the vehicles was on fire with a victim trapped.  Upon arrival of the first engine, 4 minutes later, a bystander had used a general purpose fire extinguisher to put out the small fire in the engine compartment of the overturned Honda CRV SUV.

Crews used extrication techniques to free the elderly female from the vehicle and she was transported to the trauma center at UAMC in serious but stable condition.

The second vehicle was occupied by an elderly female who suffered minor injuries and was also transported by a ground ambulance to a local hospital.

Pima County Sheriff deputies were on scene to investigate the cause of the incident.
