A 64-year-old woman was walking outside of a Subway restaurant on the east side when a man snatched her purse right out of her hands. But what the thief wasn't expecting was for the woman to fight back and pull his hood over his head.
On Jan. 1, 2014, around 12:30 p.m., Rincon District deputies responded to the Subway Restaurant located at 4768 E. Sunrise regarding a strong-armed robbery.
When deputies arrived, they learned the victim, a 64-year-old woman, had left the restaurant when an unknown male tried to take her purse. The victim grabbed the suspect by the hood of his sweatshirt and attempted to wrestle her purse back. A scuffle ensued and the suspect was able to get away with the victim’s purse.
The suspect was seen running to the west behind the Safeway shopping plaza. He drove away in a faded green Honda Civic with tinted windows.
The victim was able to recover her wallet and purse with nothing missing. She suffered minor injuries to her left arm and shoulder area during the scuffle.
The suspect is described as:
• Caucasian male
• Wearing a black hooded sweatshirt
• Blue jeans and black shoes
