Last week, the Town of Oro Valley ceremoniously opened its newest playground project at James D. Kriegh Park, 23 W. Calle Concordia.

The playground equipment, which was part of the town’s Accessible Playground Project, was made possible by a $25,000 donation from The Keg Steakhouse and Bar.

“It’s a good testament of the commitment this town has for its kids,” said Oro Valley Mayor Satish Hiremath at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 1.

The Keg Steakhouse and Bar celebrated its 40 years of business by running a national campaign to donate $1 million in grant money. After the votes were tallied, Oro Valley and 39 other towns and cities received $25,000.

In addition to the playground equipment being added to the park, KaBOOM, a non-profit organization dedicated to making sure kids have a place to play, recognized the town. The town was one of 213 communities honored as a Playful City USA for 2012.

The town was also recognized by the organization in 2010.
