District 26 Rep. Vic Williams has formed an exploratory committee to possibly run for District 1 of the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

Williams, who was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2008, said he’s fulfilled campaign promises at the state level, and now wants to work at the regional level to balance the successes of the northwest region with the rest of Pima County.

Williams, a Republican, announced to The Explorer on Thursday he has formed the exploratory committee. Williams said he wants to focus on the local economy by expanding the success of the northwest region of the county into other areas.

Without officially announcing his candidacy for the District 1 seat currently held by Republican Ann Day, Williams will be able to remain with the House of Representatives. Day announced in July that she would not seek reelection when her term comes up in 2012.

Besides serving the state Senate, Day served on the Pima County Board of Supervisors for 12 years in District 1. If all goes as planned, Williams could officially announce his candidacy sometime in January or February of next year.

All five Pima County districts are up for election in 2012. Other Pima County offices up for election in 2012 are the attorney, sheriff, recorder, treasurer, assessor and school superintendent.
