It’s one of the year’s biggest events held in the Tucson region, and for at least this year, Marana is hosting the Accenture Match Play Championship on the greens at Dove Mountain.

However, even as professionals greeted fans and got things going Monday, the question many are asking - Will it be back next year?

Accenture at least remains in Marana for now, but the current contract expires after the tournament is over on Sunday.

The tournament first came to Marana in 2007.

While plenty of big names are turning out for this year’s event, which is already under way, one big name canceled about a week before competition began. Tigers Woods opted out of this year’s competition with plans to prepare for three tournaments in Florida.

On Monday, bus loads of fans came out to Dove Mountain professionals took to the greens for practice rounds.

Practice rounds continued on Tuesday, and competition begins Wednesday between 7:25 a.m. and 12:35 p.m.

Matches will continue through Sunday. Visit The Explorer website at www.explorernews.com for daily updates.
