Nonprofit organizations have two weeks left in which to submit applications for a grant offered by the Central Arizona Project (CAP).
Arizona's single largest resource for renewable water supplies, supports and funds organizations that promote CAP's purpose to ensure an adequate water supply to the residents of Pima, Pinal and Maricopa counties.
Twice a year, CAP awards about $25,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations seeking funding for water and/or environmental education programs. The application deadline for the next set of grant awards is Nov. 1.
CAP announces the semi-annual award winners in June and December.
CAP awards grants of up to $5,000 to organizations for projects that depend on Colorado River water, enhance alternative water usage or promote water conservation. During the last application cycle, CAP awarded seven grants totaling nearly $20,000.
The recipients included grade-appropriate water education programs at the Children's' Museum of Phoenix and a number of teacher-initiated water projects through the Educational Enrichment Foundation in Tucson.
A Charitable Contributions Committee, consisting of a member of CAP's popularly elected board of directors, staff and customers, reviews all applications. CAP notifies all applicants of the results of their applications through written correspondence.
