In an effort to help some families in need this holiday season, The Explorer has partnered with Interfaith Community Services to collect food, toys, gift cards and monetary donations to help families in need.
In the Give-to-Win donation program, The Explorer encourages readers to donate any of the items listed above for the chance to win an iPad Mini. With each donation, a raffle ticket will be provided. The winner of the iPad Mini will be chosen on Friday, Dec. 20.
The donations will be utilized through multiple programs offered by ICS during the holidays and year round.
During the holidays, ICS sponsors the annual Gifts of Love Adopt-a-Family program. Last year, Gifts of Love helped 111 local families, providing holiday meals and gifts for children.
This year, ICS is expecting a much higher number of families in need given the tough economic times. To make the program a success, donations of toys for children, gift cards for teenagers and household items are being sought.
Through monetary donations, ICS continues to provide emergency financial assistance to those in need through a year-round program. Sometimes families, especially during the holidays, need assistance to pay the rent or mortgage, need help buying uniforms or work boots to stay employed, or just require assistance making ends meet when paying utility bills.
All monetary donations are tax deductible - couples can donate up to $400 and single residents can donate up to $200. This opportunity to donate for a tax credit can be taken in addition to donating to private and public schools.
To donate this season, bring all items to The Explorer office located at 7225 N. Mona Lisa Road, Suite 125. For more information, contact Managing Editor Thelma Grimes at 797-4384, or email email@example.com.
