Last week, students at Twin Peaks Elementary School participated in a school-wide event called, “Healthy School Scavenger Hunt.”

During the health event, students at the school rotated through twelve fitness stations every 10 minutes. At each station, the students answered a nutritional-based question and then participated in a physical activity ranging from riding scooters across the basketball court to playing a round of kickball. Students in younger grades did everything from throwing foam tubes back and fourth to following a teacher as she led them through a short exercise routine.

The scavenger hunt was part of the school’s Elementary Fitness for Life program, which was set up to focus attention on physical activity and nutrition. The school primarily focuses on the programs for four weeks of the school year.

One week, in every nine weeks of school, the school focuses on wellness, emphasizing nutrition and regular physical activity. In their classes, the student learn lessons regarding healthy eating and living an active life.

The scavenger hunt was a morning that culminated the previous weeks, testing the students’ nutritional knowledge and physical activity levels.

In addition to the elementary students, some Mountain View High School students joined the students, clad in fruit and vegetable costumes, and handed out prizes to students throughout the morning event.
