As part of Arizona's centennial celebration, the state has created commemorative license plates, which can be purchased through the Motor Vehicle Division of the Arizona Department of Transportation starting today online and Monday at offices and through licensed third-party operators across the state.

The plates provide Arizonans with another way to show pride in their state. The design, created by PS Studios of Phoenix, incorporates the colors and design of the Arizona flag, using yellow, blue and red colors.

The license plate is available both as a non-personalized and as a personalized plate where citizens choose the letter/number combination that will appear on their plate.

The maximum number of characters (letters and/or numbers) allowed for a personalized license plate is seven. Plates with the disability symbol are limited to six characters.

The cost of the license plate is $25 for the initial application fee, of which, $17 will benefit the Centennial Foundation and its planned events and projects, and $25 per annual renewal.

Personalized plates have an additional $25 fee, for a total of $50 annually, according to the Arizona Centennial Commission website.

More information is available on the Arizona Centennial Commission website.

The State of Arizona will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its statehood on Feb. 14, 2012.
