In coordination with the second annual National Manufacturing Day, Oct. 4, 2013, Governor Jan Brewer has proclaimed October, “Arizona Manufacturers Month.” The governor’s proclamation is part of a collaborative effort to showcase the value of manufacturing to job growth and the state economy.

“‘Arizona Manufacturers Month’ underscores my commitment to make Arizona a world leader in technology development and manufacturing,” said Governor Brewer. “Manufacturers play a critical role in the Arizona Comeback. Throughout the month, I look forward to highlighting and attracting new talent to this vital segment of our economy.”

During the month of October, Governor Brewer will visit manufacturing companies throughout Arizona to tour their facilities and promote the industry’s significant role in Arizona’s economic rebound. The governor is kicking off the month in Flagstaff today at the 2013 Governor’s Economic Development Conference, where she will address Arizona’s economic strengths, identify best practices for growth and recognize winners of the Governor’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards.

Following the conference, Governor Brewer will tour the local facility of W.L. Gore & Associates, a technology manufacturing company specializing in the fabrication of high-tech medical equipment.

“W.L. Gore is a prime example of the growing value of manufacturing in Arizona,” said Governor Brewer. “The company boasts an impressive workforce, produces life-saving equipment and continues to help fuel and improve the Arizona economy.”

Arizona is home to more than 4,500 manufacturers. It is recognized as a top-five state in terms of workforce and job growth in precision manufacturing, space and defense manufacturing and computer and electronic manufacturing.
