Last week, with the help of donations from people in the Northwest, Golder Ranch Fire District gave away 1,564 toys to 391 kids.

With the help of the Catalina Crusaders, the Black Horse Community, and numerous generous donations, 121 families received four toys for each child along with a $25 gift card to Bashas’ Grocery Store.

“This is a really nice program that gives back to a lot of needy families,” said Golder Ranch Fire Captain Josh Hurguy.

Families living between Hardy Road and the Biosphere were eligible, along with about 45 families from the Tri-Community, comprised of Oracle, Mammoth and San Manuel.

Donations were also made by staff and customers of the Sunny Side Up Café, the Uptown Optimist Club, the Desert Pointe and Splendido retirement communities, and residents of Catalina, SaddleBrooke, Sun City, Rancho Vistoso, and Oro Valley.
