On Jan. 29 the Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) was investigating a larceny from the Wal-Mart store at the Oro Valley Marketplace. During the investigation, information was obtained which implicated an on-duty Oro Valley police officer who was involved in a separate larceny.

OVPD contacted the Pima County Sheriff's Department and asked them to investigate the incident. On today's date, Pima County Sheriff investigators met with Mario Molina and recovered the stolen property. Molina, a seven-year veteran with the Oro Valley Police Department, was cited and released for a misdemeanor theft charge.

Molina has been released from active duty. OVPD has already begun an internal investigation into the matter.
