Pima Community College has named Mark D. Ziska, a former human resources executive at Raytheon, to be Interim Vice Chancellor for Human Resources.

“Mark’s experience heading Human Resources in a large organization, combined with his deep knowledge of Tucson and his sincere passion for PCC, makes him a perfect fit for us,” Chancellor Lee D. Lambert said. “I’m confident he’s the right person for the position.”

Mr. Ziska served as Senior Director of Human Resources at Raytheon’s facility in Tucson, which employs more than 10,000 people, from 1998-2007. At Raytheon, his responsibilities included labor and employee relations, organizational effectiveness, and community and government relations. He was recognized by Industry Week magazine as an HR leader for one of “America’s Best Plants.”

Since 2009, he has served as an appointed member of the Arizona State Personnel Board, which handles whistle-blower complaints and oversees disciplinary actions against state employees. He also has been a member of the PCC Foundation Board for 15 years, including a term as chair, and established a fund to support adult students with suspected learning disabilities.

“Mark has been an outstanding leader for the PCC Foundation,” said Cheryl House, the Foundation’s executive director. “His commitment to Pima and our students, which includes facilitating the Foundation’s strategic planning process and establishing a fund to provide support to adult education students who need accommodation for disabilities, is a positive example for others.”

Mr. Ziska received a master’s degree in Industrial Psychology from California State University-Long Beach and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Mr. Ziska was selected after a series of public candidate forums at PCC.
