Karina Kelly is an outstanding senior at Mountain View High School. She has run cross country for the past four years and placed fifth at the state meet her sophomore year. She also has played varsity basketball since her sophomore year. Last year she was awarded the Marisa Ann Gallego memorial scholarship. This award is given every year to one girl on the basketball team who shows leadership, character, spirit and a love for the game. Karina says it was an honor to be selected. In the spring Karina runs track. “It is a lot of work but the results are worth it”. Her sophomore year she placed fourth in the high jump at state and sixth as a freshman.
In addition to sports, Karina is a member of the Health and Medical Sciences and the Model United Nations Clubs. She has competed in the Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair for the past two years. This summer she will be a KEYS Intern at the University of Arizona. In this program she will get to work in a real science lab and conduct a research project.
Keeping her grades up while competing in three sports and numerous clubs has been a challenge, especially while taking difficult classes like AP US History and AP Literature. But she has become very good at managing her time and sacrificing social events for homework. She has been on the honor roll since her freshman year and will be graduating in May with a 3.5 GPA.
