The Tucson Quarter Midgets Association and the North Tucson Fire Fighter Community Outreach Corporation are holding the second annual Charity Race and Touch a Truck event on March 9, 2013, from 9am – 4pm at the Quarter Midget racetrack located south of Avra Valley Road on the Westside I-10 frontage road. Suggested donation of $5 for adults and kids under 12 are free. Funds raised will benefit Project Trident, a drowning prevention and awareness program.
Project Trident is a drowning prevention and awareness campaign aimed at reducing the number of deaths in Pima County. Project Trident is a collective partnership of local agencies led by the North Tucson Fire Fighter Community Outreach Corporation, dedicated to providing awareness, barriers, and classes to help prevent the senseless loss of life from drowning. Through Project Trident’s efforts in 2012, funds were raised to provide 100 children swim lessons.
Touch-a-Truck provides a unique opportunity for children to explore various types of vehicles – emergency, construction, military, transportation, and delivery – all in one place. Children will be allowed to touch, climb on and ask questions about their favorite trucks in a safe, supervised environment.
There will also be Quarter Midget racing to watch all day. The Tucson Quarter Midget Association (TQMA) is a non-profit racing club that provides kids, ages 5 to 17, the opportunity to enter into quarter midget racing in a safe, family-oriented environment. Kids learn responsibility, humility, sportsmanship, respect, discipline, and self-control through a fun, unique and challenging sport.
