Funeral Route

Funeral Route

The following information details the memorial services planned for 25-year old William Warneke, the local firefighter who was one of the 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who perished in the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30.

The services will take place today and are comprised of two phases: The arrival and the burial service.

The first phase of the services is the arrival of William Warneke’s remains at the Marana Northwest Regional Airport. Firefighter Warneke’s remains will be delivered from Prescott to Marana by a National Guard helicopter at 2:15pm.

Firefighter Warneke’s casket will be placed atop a Prescott fire engine which will then lead a procession of first responder units as he is brought to his final resting place. The public is encouraged to view the procession and pay their final respects along the route to the Marana Mortuary (12146 W. Barnett) as space at the Mortuary will be significantly limited. Hundreds of firefighters and first responders are expected to take part in the procession and service. The procession will begin at 3:15pm and run the following course from the Marana Airport:

- West on Avra Valley Road to Sanders,

- North on Sanders to Moore,

- East on Moore to Sandario,

- North on Sandario to Barnett ,

- West on Barnett to the Marana Mortuary
