the DOJ said universal checks will only work if gun registration is in place, and that is unconstitutional. let me leave my tin foil hat off, but registration leads to confiscation and in some cases oppression, look at the UK, australia, germany, russia, the list goes on.

how would you like it if you could only sell your car to or through a dealership and you had to pay whatever fees they imposed? it's the same thing.

look at chicago and the amount of homicides there, yet they have some of the strictest gun laws in the country... they don't seem to be working too well.

let's enforce the laws that are already in place, not create new ones that won't work or have the man power to enforce them.

I am not sure which voters they polled, but the results certainly do not reflect true voter sentiment. An increase in background checks would not have stopped the shooting here or in Newtown, nor would it have prevented the recent Boston tradjedy. All the weapons used would still have been available to be used. Jarod Laughner had no noted mental instability and therefore would have been deemed a viable gun purchaser and the shooter in Newtown used his mother's legally obtained guns. As far as the bombs in Boston - are we going now going to include a background check be done before one could buy a pressure cooker - you know the item used to can and/or prepare food for consumption?

We are losing enough of our rights already, lets not jump on the bandwagon to quicken the pace.
