New eastbound lanes near Marsh Station scheduled to open Monday, Feb. 3

Motorists traveling on Interstate 10 east of Tucson will encounter lane closures this week as the Arizona Department of Transportation prepares to open the newly constructed eastbound alignment near Marsh Station.

The following travel restrictions are scheduled this week:

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, the left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed two miles west of the Marsh Station Traffic Interchange (milepost 288) beginning at 6 a.m. to allow crews to clear vegetation from the median.

Also on Tuesday, Jan. 28, eastbound I-10 will be reduced to a single lane in the same location to allow crews to complete guardrail work, and then to clear vegetation from the median.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29 and Thursday, Jan. 30, both eastbound and westbound I-10 will have left lane closures two miles west of Marsh Station (milepost 288) to allow for vegetation removal in the median.

Lane closures on each of these days will be in effect until 5 p.m.

On Monday, Feb., 3, a right lane closure will go into effect starting at 6 p.m. on eastbound I-10 through the entire three-mile project area to prepare for switching traffic onto the newly constructed alignment of I-10.

During the nighttime closure, crews will remove temporary construction barrier and stripe the interstate before opening the new eastbound lanes at approximately 11 p.m.

The work is part of a $17.2 million project to separate eastbound and westbound I-10 by constructing new alignments of the interstate in each direction with a median in between.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
