Run for the Wall

Hundreds of motorcyclists riding on behalf of Run for the Wall made their way through Marana on May 17.

The annual biker event, aimed at drawing attention to veterans’ issues, began in Los Angeles and progressed to the Washington D.C., where riders paid tribute veterans at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Run for the Wall riders cross the nation to honor and remember veterans who were killed or left behind as prisoners of war during the Vietnam War.

During the 10-day trip, riders also aim to promote healing to all veterans’ families and friends affected by past and current military endeavors.

Run for the Wall was established in 1989 as an effort by James Gregory and Bill Evans, Vietnam veterans who traveled across the country talking to local radio, television shows, and newspapers about soldiers who were unaccounted for from all the nation’s wars.

The group rides cross-country every May.

Individuals looking to sign up for Run for the Wall can do so for a nominal fee at www.rftw.org.
