Two schools in the Marana School District are no longer in lockdown, but police are still searching for a male subject who was seen with a handgun on school grounds.

Around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, a teacher at the Desert Wind Elementary School in Picture Rock said a man with what looked like a handgun. After the man was approached, he jumped the fence and ran.

The man is described as as six-foot white male, wearing a light green shirt and has a tan backpack. Because he was armed at the scene, police say if anyone comes across the suspect, rather than approaching him they should call 9-1-1.

The two Marana schools in Picture Rocks were in lockdown mode for nearly two hours, with them be reopened just after noon.

Police say there is no immediate threat to students, and classes have resumed. However, parents wanting to pick up their children are welcome to do so.
