Around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Pima County Sheriffs and Northwest Fire responded to a house on the 6700 block of North Galaxy Road after receiving a call about an explosion.

According to Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s Public Information Officer Deputy Tom Peine, dispatch received a call of a woman saying there was an explosion in the garage of her house and then the line was disconnected.

The man was attempting to make self-exploding targets when the materials made a small explosion causing a little damage to his garage and a few minimal injuries to himself.

The department got a search warrant to collect evidence.

“The homeowner advised there were some other mixed chemicals that we now have to treat as unstable,” Penie said. “And they are going to go in with a robot and clear whatever kinds of stuff is still in there.”

Charges for the man are pending as the investigation continues.
