Jeff Grant, of Amphi School Board, dies

Former Amphitheater School District Governing Board Member Jeff Grant died Sunday after a long battle with cancer.

In a letter to the district’s staff, Superintendent Patrick Nelson expressed his condolences.

“I had the true honor to know Jeff as a board member and officer, civic leader and friend,” Nelson wrote. “I cannot express how much I will miss him and I know many others feel the same way.”

Grant, who joined the board in 2002, also served on site-based councils at Copper Creek Elementary School and Wilson K-8 School. He was also a member of the Amphi District Budget Advisory Committee.

“We will sorely miss his guidance, wisdom and sense of humor,” Nelson wrote “He was a true champion for students, staff, parents and taxpayers.”

Board President Susan Zibrat campaigned with Grant in 2010 for her seat that she took in 2011. Even though she served on the board with him for two years, she learned his view on serving and volunteering on the board was thankless, yet one of the most important things he had ever done.

“His dedication was so impressive to me,” Zibrat said. “Our community has suffered a huge loss.”

Zibrat added, “I hope that I can be half the community servant that he was.”
