The Arizona Department of Transportation will install guardrail and conduct seeding operations east of Tucson next week as work nears completion on the construction of a new alignment of eastbound Interstate 10 near Marsh Station Road

Motorists traveling through the area will encounter daytime lane closures Monday, Jan. 20 through Wednesday, Jan. 22 while the work is being done.

Eastbound motorists can expect a right lane closure all three days from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. at approximately milepost 288 while crews install guardrail at the west end of the project.

Westbound motorists will also encounter right lane closures all three days from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. beginning at the Marsh Station traffic interchange (Exit 291) while landscape crews seed the area along the right shoulder of the interstate.

The posted speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph in the work areas, where I-10 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.

The work is part of a $17.2 million project to separate eastbound and westbound I-10 in a three-mile segment east of Tucson by constructing new alignments in each direction with a median between.

Traffic in both directions has been sharing the new westbound alignment during construction of the eastbound lanes, which are expected to open to traffic in February.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
