The Amphitheater School District has selected three finalists to interview for the position of Superintendent for the Northwest Tucson School District. With the finalists in place, the Governing Board is providing an opportunity for the public to meet the candidates on April 12.
The finalists are Steve Chestnut, Patrick Nelson and Patrick Sweeney.
Chestnut is currently the Superintendent of the Selah School District in Washington. Nelson is an Associate Superintendent for School Operations, in the Amphitheater School District. Sweeney is the assistant Superintendent for Instructional Support in Paradise Valley.
According to Todd Jaeger, spokesman for the Amphitheater School District, the finalists will go through a “rigorous” selection process that will include a day of visits to the schools and facilities throughout the district, interviews with the governing board and participation in two separate public forums.
One of the forums, for district employees, will be held on Thursday, April 12 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The parent/public forum will also be held on Thursday, April 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
In addition to the forums, each candidate will be separately interviewed by the Governing board, which will make the final decision.
The position will be vacant at the end of June, with Vicki Balentine announcing her retirement this eyar.
Balentine spent 12 years with the Amphi School District, and served 41 years in public education.
