The Elks National Foundation’s Most Valuable Student (MVS) Scholarship Program recognizes top students across the country based on their academic achievements, leadership skills, extracurricular activities, and their participation in community services. 

Six Oro Valley high school students received these prestigious awards at a luncheon held at Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815 on May 5. 

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy student Joel Johnson and Ironwood Ridge High School student, Emma Bose received national scholarships valued at $4,000. 

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy students, Grayson Barghols and Alex Kate Halvey, and Ironwood Ridge High School students Sarah Hefferan and Braden Whitaker received $1,200 state scholarships.

 

Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge scholarships were awarded to two outstanding students attending college in California and Oregon. Rachael Gustafson, a student at San Joaquin Delta College, and Helena Schlegel, a student at the University of Oregon, each received $800 scholarships. 

This program offers scholarships to students who are pursuing post-secondary degrees or certifications from vocational or technical schools. They must have successfully completed at least one grading period of study.

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy students, Alex Kate Halvey and Joshua Tvrdy were selected High School Students of the Year. Haily Watson and Matthew McLeod were named Middle School Students of the Year. The students, chosen by a peer panel, were selected from Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge Student of the Month Program based on their achievements in citizenship, scholarship, service, and leadership.
