On Dec. 29, the Tucson Police Department responded to a house after a 911 call by a mother who discovered that her 11-year-old daughter was interacting inappropriately with an unknown adult male through Facebook. The interaction included graphic pictures and sexual conversation between the two. Detectives from the Tucson Police Family and Youth Services Section continued the investigation.

The suspect had attempted to arrange a personal meeting with the 11-year-old to have sex. He also wanted to videotape it and attempted to pursue her with money. On Jan. 3, the suspect arranged the meeting with the minor female and, upon his arrival, was subsequently arrested with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Child Predator Apprehension Team and plain clothes TPD officers.

The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Jesus Ballesteros. He was booked into the Pima County Jail for the following charges:

• One count of Aggravated Luring of a Minor

• One count of Attempted Child Prostitution

• One count of Attempted Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

• One count of Attempted Sexual Conduct with a Minor

Ballesteros, who has prior convictions for sexual offenses, has made contact with numerous female juveniles with sexual intent, to include sharing of graphic photographs and conversations of a sexual nature.

The Tucson Police Department is concerned that there may be other victims within the community. They highly recommends that parents check their children’s Facebook and other Social Media Accounts for the below profile picture and profile name. Anyone locating this individual on their child’s social media account is urged to call Detective Dan Barry of TPD’s Family and Youth Services Section at 520-837-7596 or 911 immediately.

The Tucson Police Department urges parents to continually monitor their children’s Facebook and any other Social Media Accounts they have access to. Knowing and monitoring your child’s online friends, connections and conversation is crucial for their safety.

The Marana capital improvements improvements are expected to take years to complete as Marana finds the best plan of action to complete the projects and fund the improvements. Do you think this is a good idea?

The town of Marana is looking at ways to do capital improvements to the oldest neighborhoods in Marana. Over the next few months the town will survey older neighborhoods and see what amenities they need and form a plan to make sure neighborhoods have paved roads, sidewalks, adequate drainage, lighting and even pocket parks. “We want to make sure that every neighborhood has a base standard for infrastructure,” said Marana Town Manager Gilbert Davidson. The improvements are expected to take years to complete as Marana finds the best plan of action to complete the projects and fund the improvements. Do you think this is a good idea?

How do you feel about a potential memorial art project to honor our community’s bravest men and women?

During the Jan. 20 town council meeting, a vote was unanimously passed to look into the feasibility of a “Memorial Public Art Project,” at the request of Oro Valley resident Dick Eggerding to potentially be placed somewhere in the town to honor military veterans and first responders. Though no concrete plans were then ready to act on, there was a show of overwhelming support for such project from residents and staff alike during the council meeting. In an effort to poll to community at-large, The Explorer would like to know how you feel about a potential memorial art project to honor our community’s bravest men and women.
