Members of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee have elected U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., to be the ranking member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee in the 113th Congress. She has also been assigned to serve on the Economic Opportunity Subcommittee.

The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee has jurisdiction over general veterans’ matters, information technology, procurement and matters that are referred to the subcommittee by the full committee chairman.

The Economic Opportunity Subcommittee has jurisdiction over matters including veteran education, employment and training, vocational rehabilitation and housing programs.

“This leadership role allows me to better serve our veterans, who have already served and sacrificed for all of us," Kirkpatrick said. "The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee can work to ensure, for example, that veterans can navigate the health-care system and are receiving the care they deserve.”

As Arizona’s only member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Kirkpatrick will prioritize veterans’ issues and work hard on behalf of the state’s more than half-million veterans. During her term in the 111th Congress, Kirkpatrick was able to pass legislation that helped Native American, rural and disabled veterans with critical issues such as housing access and cost-of-living adjustments.
