Olympian Shannon Miller brings her story of survival to Tucson

Northwest Medical Center welcomes former Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller to Tucson on Thursday, Feb. 28, as keynote speaker for its annual Healthy Woman Anniversary event held at the Hilton El Conquistador at 10000 N. Oracle Road. This registration-only event begins at 5:30 p.m. and features food, wine and health education.

Tickets are $25 and include all food, a complimentary glass of wine, beer or soda, dessert and the keynote speech. A cash bar will also be available.  Tickets must be purchased by Feb. 25, by calling 866-694-9355 or by visiting www.NorthwestMedicalCenter.com/HealthyWoman.

The event, emceed by Tucson News Now’s First Alert Meteorologist Erin Jordan, is called “Uprooting Challenges, Planting Hope,” and will be keynoted by Shannon Miller (America’s most decorated American female gymnast with seven Olympic and nine World Championship medals), as she shares her journey from superstar athlete to entrepreneur, mother and cancer survivor. “Cancer is just another life challenge you have to compete with if you want to win,” says Miller.

The evening begins with a reception and health fair from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., featuring passed hors d'oeuvres and a fresh pasta station with bread sticks. After the reception, attendees will enjoy assorted desserts while listening to Miller's inspirational story from 7 to 8 p.m.

There will be several raffles throughout the night, including a one-night stay at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort. Northwest Medical Center appreciates the support of its event partners including Pima Federal Credit Union, Genesis OB/GYN and Arizona Oncology.

Healthy Woman is an ongoing, free community program provided by NMC to empower women with the knowledge and confidence to make informed health care and well-being decisions for themselves and their loved ones. The seminars are held on the fourth Monday of every month.
