The Town of Marana recently hired a new technology services director, while the Town of Oro Valley has welcomed a new communications administrator.

In late July, the Town of Marana hired Carl Drescher as its technology director. Drescher came to Marana from the City of Tucson where he served as the information technology division administrator.

With a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona, Drescher will be paid $102,000 per year.

In Oro Valley, Misti Nowak took over as the communications administrator on Aug. 1. At $72,000 per year, Nowak is going to be wearing several hats.

Interim Town Manager Greg Caton said Oro Valley cut its public relations position last year, and lost its graphic designer to Marana, leaving the communications department depleted.

Nowak, who comes to Oro Valley after serving as a public information officer for the Sunnyside School District, will be handling all communication duties.

Caton said the communications department is important for the town, but at the same time he is happy to be saving money by hiring Nowak, who has talents in several areas.

Nowak said she saw the Oro Valley position as a career opportunity, and looks forward to serving the town and its residents.

Besides dealing with the media, Nowak will handle the town's social media and graphic design projects.

Caton estimated the town is saving $240,000 this year by having Nowak take on several duties, and by not filling the assistant town manager position.
