Pima College Center for Training and Development to host Sept. 18 open house

Pima Community College's Center for Training and Development kicks off its 50th anniversary celebration Tuesday, Sept. 18, with an open house highlighting its healthcare training programs.

The Healthcare Open House is 3-7 p.m., in the Pueblo Building at PCC Desert Vista Campus, 5901 S. Calle Santa Cruz.

Information on CTD programs in health professions will be presented. Those programs, most of which can be completed in a few weeks or a few months are :

*         Practical Nursing

*         Surgical Technology

*         Medical Assistant

*         Medical Office Support

*         Nursing Assistant

*         Business Technology

*         Phlebotomy

*         Medical Records and Coding

*         Behavioral Health Specialist

The open house, which also will have information tables on the PCC Pathways to Healthcare Program, funded by a federal Health Profession Opportunity Grant to provide training for low-income people in high-demand healthcare jobs, also will have tables with information on PCC resources and tours of labs for:

*         Surgical Technology

*         Nursing Assistant/Practical Nursing simulator

*         Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy

The open house is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 206-5100.

CTD began as the Tucson Skills Center in 1963 and since then has trained more than 40,000 individuals. In 1973, the Skills Center became part of PCC. The Skills Center named was changed to the Center for Training and Development in 1993, when it also relocated to PCC's Desert Vista Campus. Other anniversary events are being planned throughout 2013.

CTD provides high-quality training leading to immediate jobs or to job advancement in many in-demand fields in southern Arizona. CTD offers clock-hour training in health, culinary and food service, and business professions. PCC boasts a 90 percent completion rate and an 85 percent job placement rate in CTD programs.
