Freddy's Cruise-In a Big Hit

Cars pulled in one by one quickly filling up the parking lot last week, as the first Northwest Cruise-In proved to be a big hit among locals. Northwest Tucson and Marana residents enjoyed frozen custards, steakburgers, and cold drinks while admiring 87 classic cars and trucks that filled the designated parking space and then some.

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers hosted the show with other local businesses allowing the usage of their parking spaces for the event. Event organizer Jason McCoy was happy with showing.

“I'm very happy with the turnout. It's a safe, family atmosphere that's really bringing back the old days of classic drive-in's," he said.

As the day continued, space was scarce as cars circled around to find parking for the free event.

Organizers of the Northwest Cruise-In thanked Freddy's, Sunflower Market, and Northwest Urgent Care for sacrificing much of their parking space in an effort to support the event.

The following shows are anticipated to be even larger than the first, prompting event coordinators to begin thinking of methods to increase space to allow for more vehicles. The shows impressive turnout last Sunday is rivaling other local shows as being the premier classic car and hotrod gathering on the northwest side of town.

The group meets every Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. with one larger roped off on the third Sunday of each month. The second monthly show is scheduled for May 20 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The event is free and classic cars 1980 and older are encouraged to attend. The event is located on the corner of Orange Grove and Thornydale road, and is sure to bring in many visitors during the spring and summer months to come.
