Northwest Fire extricating critical patient from accident

Northwest Fire paramedics and firefighters are extricating a patient in critical condition from a car accident La Cholla and Sunset, according to department spokesperson Adam Goldberg.

The accident involved a GMC SUV and a Chevy Cobalt. 

A trapped driver of a Chevy Cobalt was extricated the using Jaws of life and was transported by ground ambulance to the trauma center at UAMC. The driver's age is unknown. The car also was carrying another adult female on her 60s who was also transported to trauma center at UAMC. An infant and a third adult in the car were uninjured. The infant was not restrained during the accident.

The driver and only occupant of the GMC SUV had minor injuries and was treated at the scene and not transported.

Traffic is down to one lane in both north and southbound directions of La Cholla, according to department spokesman Adam Goldberg.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is on the scene to investigate the cause of the incident.
