2014 Best of the Northwest

For the third straight year, The Explorer Newspaper hosted the Best of the Northwest special.

This has been the best year by far in terms of participation. More than 1,500 registered voters logged in to vote this year for the large variety of categories.

Voters were allowed to cast votes for their favorite businesses once a day, with the voting starting back in November. Nearly 10,000 total votes were cast this year.

“To see voting continue to increase year after year shows residents take pride not only in their community, but also in some of their favorite businesses,” said Explorer Managing Editor Thelma Grimes. “The Explorer appreciates all the participation this year. Congratulates all of our finalists and we look forward to an even more successful special edition next year.”

The results are fair, as The Explorer contracted with a third-party company to manage the voting.

From Marana to Oro Valley, hundreds of businesses received votes from customers. While only a few made the finalist list, in compiling the results, The Explorer staff learned about many businesses we had never heard of, and plan on trying some of them out.

The businesses taking first place in the poll are described throughout “The Best of the Northwest” special section. The section features all businesses that made the top three, or received enough votes to receive honorable mention.

All of the first-place winners will receive a certificate signed by Explorer Publisher Ryan Kedzierski and Managing Editor Thelma Grimes.

I was very disappointed that there were no plumbers, electricians, and air conditioning companies included.
