The Pinal County medical examiner is working to establish the identity and cause of death of a man found dead Tuesday morning on the grounds of the Sierra Tucson rehabilitation center, said Elias Johnson, public information officer for the Pinal County Sheriff's Office. Sierra Tucson, 39580 S. Lago del Oro Parkway, is located within a mile southeast of SaddleBrooke.

At 7:30 a.m., crews from Golder Ranch Fire District were dispatched to the stable area about a quarter-mile from the rehab center and psychiatric hospital after receiving a call from a man who had found the body while riding his horse in the desert, said Capt. Josh Hurguy, a spokesman for Golder Ranch Fire District.

Sierra Tucson's stables are located in the southwest corner of the property.

Pinal County Sheriff's deputies have been unable to determine the man's identity and cause of death due to the severe state of decomposition, said Hurguy.

The cause of death did not appear to be suspicious, said Johnson, adding the medical examiner would have to determine the exact cause.

Johnson could not confirm if the man is Ken Litwack, the 71-year-old California man who was last seen at the rehab center on Aug. 16. Family members said he suffers from bouts of confusion and likely wandered off. He admitted himself into the center on Aug. 12.

Pinal County Sheriff's deputies have begun their investigation.
