After a stoppage of rain for weeks on the Northwest side, the afternoon monsoon storms came back with a vengeance Thursday night.

With trees down, extensive damage to area buildings mixed with rain and hail made for a rough commute home for some residents.

With some of the reported damage, the Safeway on Linda Vista Road will be closed today due to rain damage. The damage in the store is expected to cost thousands.

Tucson Electric Power also worked well into the night to restore power for about 600 residents.

Weather predictions are already saying more rain is expected throughout the coming week as 100 degree temperatures are expected to dissipate with afternoon storms increasing.
