Federal authorities have confirmed that the device found underneath a vehicle outside a vehicle in Marana is an explosive.
Authorities were called around 4:15 Sunday night to the Hooters parking long on Ina. The vehicle owner said there was a suspicious device under his car. The victim apparently saw wires, which made him suspicious.
Marana police first called the Pima County Bomb Squad unit to clear the scene. The investigation was then turned over to the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) department for further investigation.
ATF Spokesman Tom Mangan said once the device was confirmed to have explosive material, it was sent to a San Francisco lab for further investigation.
Mangan said they will investigate the makeup of the bomb and test for DNA to try and identify a suspect.
At this point, Mangan said the ATF has no reason to believe there are other bombs in the Pima County area. He said it appears that this is an isolated case.
