Officials for the Arizona Game and Fish Department are hiking Romero Canyon at Catalina State Park to search for evidence of an alleged mountain lion sighting that may have caused an 18-year-old man to fall.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department was called out early this morning to search for the 18-year-old man who was hiking with his girlfriend.

The man was rescued by helicopter, suffering head, shoulder and neck injuries, according to officials. He was taken to a Tucson hospital where he is expected to survive.

Mark Hart, of the Arizona Game and Fish Department, said crews will be hiking the two or three miles to the location the man was found to see if there is indeed evidence of the mountain lion, which is suspected of following the hikers.

"We need to go up to the location where the mountain lion was allegedly seen and verify its presence by tracks," Hart told reporters. "We also need to interview the witnesses."

Game and Fish crews will also be investigating whether or not the mountain lion cuased the man's fall.

Well.....I guess I won't be hiking near Romero's ruins for awhile. These mountain lions have some nerve infringing on human habitat areas.
