The Marana Chamber is thankful for our historic and strategic growth in 2017. Our plans for 2018 include the same principles that have carried us this far: Our caring and friendly culture, our willingness to think out of the box and our continued mission to be the voice of business that works to build economic growth and quality of life in our community.
Our partnership with the Town of Marana shares a commitment to a strategic plan for smart growth with their five pillars of commerce, community, progress and innovation, heritage and recreation. As a component of recreation, the new Tangerine Sky Park Art installation of metal deer family was built with help of Marana High School Welding students and is drawing much attention.
The town has many new commercial projects underway.
The Hampton Inn, across from the Tucson Premium Outlet Mall, is raising from the ground and will be a big attraction for the area and our international visitors from the south.
The new Northwest Emergency Center in Marana will have an open house for the public on Saturday, Feb. 10, Marana’s first freestanding emergency department.
HSL Properties will be starting a new 300-plus unit luxury apartment project off the Frontage Road across from Quarry pines soon.
The town’s new roundabout will be paved by this printing. This roundabout will be the beginning of the fruition of the vision of a viable downtown Marana.
Jason Angell is the new development services director, and will continue these efforts developing the land code in line with the general plan.
At our recent monthly community and regional update meeting, we heard from Dan Casmer, resident engineer for ADOT on Ina Road updates. ADOT is on track to finish the project by February, 2019, but some significant progress will be reached by April of this year.
We celebrated a ribbon cutting and grand opening for Pima Federal Credit Union at their new Marana location at 8631 N. Silverbell Road. Our Play Place also opened its innovative new concept at 3951 W. Costco Drive, #125.
I would like to congratulate our members Ritz-Carlton, and ArcLight Pictures for their recent awards. The Ritz-Carlton Marana won the Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the 2018 TripAdvisor Traveler Choice awards. ArcLight Pictures won its category of Short Film Action/Adventure at the recent 2018 Chandler International Film Festival.
I would also like to congratulate Amber Smith for being named the new president and CEO of the Tucson Metro Chamber. We look forward to many years of positive collaboration in our communities.
As a veteran myself, it has come to my attention that our good neighbors to the north in Pinal need our help.
The Department of Defense divestment of Southern Arizona National Guard aviation resources will compromise critical National Guard aviation training programs at our local Silverbell Army Heliport and Western Army Aviation Training Site (WAATS), while devastating the local economy.
This decision by the U.S. Army and National Guard Bureau is projected to have more than a $38 million of immediate economic impact and an additional $250 million impact by 2021.
The Marana Chamber asks that you please contact Governor Ducey, Senator McCain, Congresswoman McSally and Arizona’s entire congressional delegation to encourage them to fight for our national defense and local economy!
