El Conquistador Golf Club at the award-winning Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort has a reputation in Tucson for providing fun, scenic golf in a resort setting. Opened in the early 1980’s, the club has filled a niche in Oro Valley providing all the amenities for an active lifestyle, including golf, tennis, two pools, and expansive health club facility and several dining options. The Club has recently invested nearly $3 million to enhance its two golf courses – The Conquistador Course and The Cañada Course.

As part of the enhancements, all 103 bunkers on both 18-hole courses have been renovated with new drainage, liners and filled with pioneer white sand. Director of Golf Bill Chrysler says of the new bunkers, “In this day and age, to get all of the bunkers renovated at the same time is huge. It provides a level of consistency that makes playing out of the bunkers fun again.” In addition to renovating the bunkers, the washes that run through the courses were reconstructed with clean new edges and re-graded bottoms. The desert areas bordering every hole were smoothed and re-landscaped and a total of 21 mesquite and Palo Verde trees were planted. Many turf areas were re-seeded, the greens are rolling exceptionally well and the fairways are lush and full. As part of the project the cart paths also underwent extensive repair. “The work in the washes and desert has effectively widened the courses” notes Chrysler. “Now you will be able to find your ball and get a club on it much more often.” Adds Lynn Ericksen, general manager “our Conquistador and Cañada golf courses are both in the best condition they have been since they first opened to the public. As Tucson’s largest golf resort, we are very pleased to offer our guests and club members, these improved world-class golf facilities.”

One of the things that make El Conquistador unique is that the two 18-hole courses located at 10555 North La Cañada Drive in Oro Valley, offer distinct experiences. The par-71 Conquistador Course is located in a lush, park-like setting adjacent to the clubhouse. Surrounded by native trees, this fabulous course is intertwined with vibrant desert flora and offers four sets of tee boxes suitable for golfers of all abilities. “The Conquistador Course is the much more Country Club-like course” described Matt Hudson, the Head Golf Professional.  “It gives golfers the opportunity to hit driver off the tee and it only has one hole that requires a forced carry.”

The par-72 Cañada Course boasts stunning mountain views from all holes. Guests play through saguaro capped hillsides surrounded by natural desert terrain, and enjoy manicured fairways and spectacular views of the Catalina Mountains and desert wildlife. Hudson characterized the Cañada Course as “a more desert style resort layout with a premium placed on accurate tee shots. Once the ball is in play off the tee on the Cañada Course you can really attack the flags.” In addition, “the Cañada Course offers some of the best views of Pusch Ridge and the Tucson Valley” added Hudson.

Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort also features a third course, 9-hole Pusch Ridge Course located at the main resort. This beautiful course winds, dips and climbs through 175-feet of vertical drop in the foothills, with a challenging 2,788-yard layout. It has always been a favorite of local residents for the stunning views and relaxed atmosphere, and offers members and guest the opportunity to play a round of golf in less than two hours.

All three golf courses are open to the public as well as members of El Conquistador Golf Club.

El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort is more than just golf. It is known as one of the top resort tennis facilities in the world.
