With daily specials, a tasty menu and good atmosphere, Jax Kitchen is definitely a place to return in Northwest Tucson.
Jax Kitchen, located at 7286 N. Oracle Road, is the restaurant you go to get true homemade cooking. So often, when we make something at home, hoping to get that burst of flavor, we miss the mark. At Jax, they are right on target with every dish.
In our third visit to the small diner, I had the Abbey Grilled Cheese ($11), which consists of whipped brie, zucchini pesto and heirloom tomato on sourdough bread.
It’s hard to go wrong with brie, but mix in the flavorful zucchini pesto and flavorful fresh tomato and you are set. While there is a small salad with the sandwich, I would recommend ordering the French fries, which have a perfect texture and are cooked the right amount of crispy. These go great with the aioli dipping sauce.
Prior to the sandwich, I took advantage of the day’s soup, which was gazpacho with crab, cucumber and herb oil ($7). With temperatures going well past 100 degrees, this is a perfect summer soup.
Rich tomato flavors, a good texture with the addition of crab and cucumber make it a perfect starter.
Jax has a different menu every day, which features a special soup, breakfast or lunch meal, sandwich, and a fresh pasta dish. This complements a small, but well put together regular menu.
While I enjoyed my grilled cheese, my dining partner, Jon, also kept to Jax’s regular menu, ordering the Jax Kobe Cheese Burger ($13), sharing the large portion of French fries with me.
Like the grilled cheese, the burger hits close to home. Pan fried to perfection, with crispy bacon, and gruyere cheese made this an instant favorite.
After three visits, there are no complaints about Jax. The service is fantastic, the food is prepared quickly and the prices are affordable.
If you are looking for a new place to try for lunch, consider Jax.
Jax is open for lunch Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Jax is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. with Happy Hour hosted Tuesday through Saturday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
