George Thorogood and the Destroyers

On Feb. 28, George Thorogood and the Destroyers’ 40 Years Strong tour landed at the Fox Theater in downtown Tucson.

The evening opened with Tucson’s own Bryan Dean Trio. They had 30 minutes to engage the audience and used it to introduce a few of their originals including “Sobriety Checkpoint” from their second CD.

Then, George Thorogood and the Destroyers took the stage with a backdrop slideshow portraying their 40 years in the music business. Still photos and short-film clips chronicled their career from 1974 to the present.   Approximately 800 fans immediately came to their feet with the opening number, “Rock Party” and followed Lonesome George’s every move as he danced and played his way around the stage. Moving right into the Bo Diddley classic “Who Do You Love”, the crowd let him know that it would be George Thorogood on this night. As the band moved  seamlessly  from  one hit to another the audience sang and cheered with each one. The band fed off of the audience participation.

By the end of the show, the audience was singing louder than  ever and had been transported through time experiencing  40 years of Destroyers’’ hits. Everyone left  this show with a smile on their face.

If you missed them this year, you may want to consider buying a ticket if they return to celebrate 41 years.
