Foggy morn
Randy Metcalf/The Explorer, Cholla cactus needles are covered with morning dew droplets early last Friday as a cloud of fog covered most of the Northwest side of Tucson.

The Tucson Cactus & Succulent Society (TCSS) will hold a 2014 Blooming Barrel Sale from 7:30 to 11 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 17 at 4342 N. 4th Ave. (first street west of First Avenue and south of Wetmore.)  Gates open at 7 p.m. with vendor sales at 7:30 a.m.

Rescued cactus, those saved by TCSS from developers to clear the land or the Department of Transportation, will be for sale at 8 a.m.  Entry numbers for these will be given out at 7 p.m.,

Initially limiting access to rescued sales area starting at 8 a.m. (about 15 customers at a time.)

All cacti sales for the first 30 minutes will have limits of two each type of cactus per customer.

The sale includes approximately 200 Barrels, 400 Hedgehogs, 100 small Saguaros (under 20” tall), 450 Mammillaria (pincushions) and 10 Cholla.  (TCSS) will load the cacti into vehicles; heavy gloves are available for $12 a pair. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.  For more information, call 256-2447.
