Replacing My Big Fat Greek Restaurant by the Foothills Mall, Chef Aaron May opened his second restaurant in Tucson, Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen, on Jan. 1.
May opened his first restaurant in Tucson several years ago, May’s Counter Chicken and Waffles, located on East Speedway Boulevard.
Now, he is looking forward to coming back to Tucson, as he is based in Phoenix, in order to open a new restaurant.
“We’ve been looking for more spaces in Tucson to open up,” said May. “Then the area on Ina and La Cholla became available and it seemed like a way that we could expand our brand. It’s a great space and located in a great part of town.”
Beyond having a great space for the restaurant, May said his team considered the demographics and neighborhood around that area before deciding on a concept for the restaurant.
“I think it’s an area that for a restaurant that is need of something that has a local flare,” said May. “We are an independent restaurant. We are not a chain, there’s not a hundred of them ya know? I’m as hands-on as you can possibly be. I spend everyday in a restaurant whether it’s in Tucson or Phoenix or Flagstaff to grow the brand in Arizona, which we believe is very important to us.”
Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen will offer the same menu for lunches and dinners everyday during the week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. From Appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches, the restaurant will also offer main course entrees.
“”If you want to come and sit at a bar we have that or you can have a sit down family dinner. It’s a 2013 take on American classics where it has a lot of those familiar flavors,” said May. “I don’t like to call it comfort food because our food is a little bit nicer than what people would associate with comfort food, but it’s those familiar foods that make it so inviting.
Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen will be open everyday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
