Marana fireworks

The Town of Marana will host fireworks as part of its Star-Spangled Spectacular on July 4. Events will start at 6 p.m. at Arizona Pavilions; the fireworks are expected to launch around 9 p.m.

Kicking off the Independence Day festivities this Friday, June 29, The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain will be hosting a whole weekend of dining and entertainment for guests big and small. Friday evening features a CORE Wine Experience for adults, and a Cosmic Slide Party at the pool for all ages.

Saturday follows with either a CORE Mixology Class for those 21 and up, an A La Carte dinner of "Contemporary Cowboy Cuisine" with live country music, and a Night Sky Telescope Experience for all.

On Sunday, the resort will offer an all-American S'mores Experience as well as a re-visitation of the Telescope Experience.

On Wednesday, July 4, the main attraction will undoubtedly be the Red, White & Bluegrass BBQ Buffet featuring live entertainment, priced at $40/adults, $20/children, and closing with a Fireworks Spectacular.

A Rangers Night Out which features activities, entertainment and dinner for kids will be offered at $85/child throughout the weekend.

Sushi, Sake and live dinner entertainment will be offered on Friday, Saturday and Wednesday.

Cultural programs for kids throughout the week include a Cowboy Adventure on Friday, Native American Art on Saturday, and a Dove Mountain Explorer program on Sunday and Wednesday.

All restaurants, as well as the BBQ Buffet and fireworks show will be open to the public. Reservations for dining events may be made at 572-3000.

On July 1, the Desert Diamond Casino in Sahuarita will host an All-American Backyard BBQ from 5-8:30 pm, complete with live music by the John Eric Band, barbecue, eegees’ slushies, Prayerfully Popped kettle corn and a fireworks show.

The event will return on July 4 at the Why location from 5-8 pm, this time with complimentary barbecue from the casino staff and music by Fiesta DJs.

Desert Diamond Club members will have the opportunity to take advantage of the "Earn A Gift" promotions at both locations. Members earning 20 points on July 1 are eligible to receive an event t-shirt at Sahuarita, while members earning 100 points a day between July 1-4 may receive one gift per day while supplies last at the Why location.

The Hilton Tucson El Conquistador will be hosting a full day of 4th of July festivities, starting with poolside entertainment at 9 a.m. In the evening, guests are invited to an all-American BBQ buffet, followed by a live DJ and a performance by the Twilight Band, and ending in a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

Dinner prices are $27/adults and $12/kids for resort guests, or $32/adults and $15/kids for the public. Kids four and younger eat free. For reservations call 544-5000 or visit

For baseball fans, the Tucson Padres will be holding a seven-day celebration from June 27-July 3 while playing hosts to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Salt Lake Bees.

The 29th features Myron Noodleman, the "Clown Prince of Baseball" with a Jerry Lewis-type performance.

The 30th is a Fireworks Spectacular to kick off the pre-holiday weekend at Kino Stadium.

July 1 is Military Appreciation Night and Bark in the Park. All military will receive 4 free box seats with ID. Dogs will be admitted free with owners, and kids may bring swimsuits to play in the outfield Kids Zone. 2-for-1 admission granted to Goodwill donors with receipt all Sundays throughout the year.

July 2 is KiiM Family Night, in which any group of 4 will receive 4 box seats, 4 hot dogs and 4 soft drinks for just $20. Tickets purchased after 4 will be sold at $5, as long as you mention KiiM-FM or the AZ Daily Star at the box office. The first 2000 fans get an AZ Daily Star Collectors Series poster.

On the July 3, the Padres close the week with a Star Spangled Spectacular at Kino Stadium. Fans should get tickets ahead of time as this is always the biggest crowd of the season.

At Crossroads at Silverbell Park there will be a movie, kids activities and games. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the fireworks show.

The Movie in the Park will be "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer" and will start at 7:45 p.m.

By order of Northwest Fire District, no consumer fireworks are allowed at the event.
