“Our Earth Day event is a wonderful opportunity for our students and our community to learn about protecting our home, planet Earth,” said Dr. Denise Meeks, Science Department Chair at the Northwest Campus. “We invite you to join us to explore Earth's ecology, meteorology, hydrology, geology, biology, chemistry, and astronomy with hands-on demonstrations and activities.

“Students from our Therapeutic Massage Program will also be providing free massages, so be sure to sign up at their tent,” she said. “Kids of all ages are welcome, and parking is free.”

Visitors can use our giant campus sundial and taste food cooked in a solar oven. Chocolate chip cookies and a pot roast were among the treats that have been prepared with solar ovens at previous Earth Day events.

Representatives from more than 50 organizations are expected to participate. Among this semester's participants are the Pima Air & Space Museum, Tohono Chul Park, the Nature Conservancy and the National Weather Service. There also will be representatives from the Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and the University of Phoenix.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second level. The Northwest Campus is located at 7600 N. Shannon Road, just north of the Ina and Shannon intersection.
