Sept. 1, 2004 - Pima County School Superintendent Linda Arzoumanian declared a governing board vacancy in the Marana Unified School District Aug. 27 due to the resignation of board member Sandi Nielson.

Nielson will be moving out of the school district and no longer eligible to serve on the governing board.

Arzoumanian determined the vacant seat on the governing board will appear on the Nov. 2, 2004 general election ballot as a write-in position with a special term from Jan. 1, 2005 to Dec. 31, 2006.

Any resident of MUSD interested in becoming a write-in candidate for this position can contact Susan Hankinson in the Pima County School Superintendent Office and request a write-in candidate packet. The filing deadline to be an official write-in candidate is Sept. 23, 2004. Only "official write-in candidates" will have their names posted in the polling places and votes in their favor counted.

To be eligible, a candidate must be a registered voter of the state and have been a resident of MUSD for one year preceding the election day. No employee of the school district, or spouse of an employee, may hold membership on the governing board. For further information contact Susan Hankinson at 740-8451.
